WavStay is the place to go whenever you are looking to rent a boat to fulfill your dream of staying on the water! Let us help you plan the perfect getaway with our tremendous selection of locations and vessels to fit your wishes, with or without the services of a captain.

How do I list my boat or slip?

Step 1 – Register as a host

Create your user profile and select “Add New Listing” under your user dashboard

 

Step 2 – Add your listing

Insert a listing title and add a description for your vessel – Please note if your boat is docked only, meaning it does not leave the dock and is used for overnight or day stays.

If listing a boat, include information regarding your fuel policy, possible activities such as fishing, and the capacity limits of your boat. These details will be important for renters to determine if your boat allows for the activities they desire.

For charters, you can let your renters know who will be captaining their boat rental as well as familiarize them with the crew by including a photo and background information. Highlighting your experience will put your renters at ease. Be sure to include any special qualities you possess, such as the ability to assist novice fishermen and/or scuba instruction, etc. If you’re allowing qualified renters to captain your vessel, this is where you will make that known as well.

Select the type of listing –  Boat, Charter, or Slip & Mooring.

Insert the location of your listing. The address of your boat or slip is important! Our site will show where it shows up in search results. If it’s at a Marina please list the marinas address so that the renter can find your boat or slip easy.

 

Step 3 – Set your price

You name the price! Select how much it will cost renters to rent your boat, slip, or charter. You can set daily/nightly rates, hourly rates, and weekend rates.

 

Step 4 – Add photos and videos

The best way to attract more people to your WavStay listing is to highlight each area of your boat or slip with detailed, high quality photos. We suggest no less than 800 pixels, and no more than 2000 to ensure your ability to upload them successfully.

The main photo should show the boat or slip in its entirety. All areas of the boat or slip should be represented, as well as a detailed layout of the vessel or walkway. Be sure to include photos of your past guests enjoying whatever activity they have experienced during their rental (gatherings, catch of the day, etc.). This will allow potential renters to “see” themselves overnighting on your boat or staying at your slip!

 

Step 5- Highlight the amenities of your vessel

Select which amenities are available on your boat or slip. Be sure to be as accurate as possible so that potential renters can easily tell if your boat has the amenities they are looking for or if the slip is the size they need.

 

Step 6 – Name your terms

If you have specific terms and rules you want to implement on your vessel this is where you can let guests know.

 

Step 7 – Submit your listing

Once your boat, charter or slip is published, anyone will be able to search for it on the WavStay platform. Be sure you have completed your profile entirely before submitting it for publishing. You can edit your listing in your user dashboard under “My Listings”.

How can I make my listing stand out from the rest?

Start with a short statement that will cause your potential renter to want to keep reading. Be sure to point out what makes your location desirable, and include photos of your boat and surroundings. In your listing you will want to outline if the fuel is included in your rate or if it’s extra. “Renter Pays fuel”. Make sure you let your guest know if your boat is docked only. Which means it does not leave the dock and is used for overnight or day stays.

What should I charge for my boat or slip rental?

Since pricing is up to the individual owner, you might consider checking the listings of boat or slip with similar amenities to determine what you feel would be a fair rate. You may also negotiate special price offers with individual potential renters if you choose to do so. Make sure you let your guest know if your boat is docked only. Which means it does not leave the dock and is used for overnight or day stays.

Am I qualified to rent a boat for an overnight stay, charter or slip?

Every renter must meet the following requirements:

1. Must be at least 18 years of age

2. Have a current and valid ID

3. Possess a mobile phone so that you can be reached through messaging.

Do I need a boating license to rent a boat for open water or charter?

You can enjoy all aspects of the boating experience without needing a license! Overnight stays do not leave the dock or location. If rental or chartering, WavStay ensures only qualified captains will take the boat out of port for safety assurance. You’ll have the ability to include hiring an experienced captain for your WavStay experience.

How do I create my profile?

Register as a guest or a host and fill out the personal profile page with a short description about you. Add a photo and make it personal! The more information you can add about the boat and your qualifications the better.  Make sure to list experiences you have had with your boat and the fun things experienced. You can edit your profile in the user dashboard.

How do Ratings & Reviews work?

Ratings and reviews are an important way to communicate your thoughts on your experience for all owners, captains and future renters after the booking is completed. It is an excellent marketing tool for owners and captains, as well as providing information on the reputation of the renter to aid in securing future rentals. All parties will be prompted by way of email to fill out your review after the rental is completed.

As a renter, how do I know if my booking is confirmed?

As soon as the host or captain approve your rental request, you will receive an email confirmation of your successful booking. You will be able to see all details including the boat, slip and captain (if applicable) information, requested dates, price, and any specific instructions from the host. You will be able to contact the host, as well as send and receive all messages from your profile dashboard.

As a host, how do I communicate with the renter?

WavStay makes communication with the renter easy! You can view & send messages on our secure platform. When logged in, you will see a new notification in the top right corner. Simply click the notification or go straight to your inbox to view the message. From there, you can reply to the message and make all arrangements with both the renter, as well as the captain. You can also choose to receive email and/or SMS notifications whenever someone reaches out to you.

How do I cancel a booking as an owner?

As an owner, if you feel uncomfortable with renter’s profile and/or boating qualifications, or in the case of inclement weather, or any other justifiable reason, you may make the decision to cancel a booking.

What happens when a booking request expires?

It is important to maintain a prompt response time when you receive requests for bookings, since these requests will expire after 24 hours without your response. You will want to ensure you stay high on the search results, and keep a healthy profile, as these response rates will be visible there.

How do I approve or decline booking requests?

Once you receive a notification that you have a booking request, simply click on the notification to accept or decline in the event that your boat is not available or you have any reservations regarding the potential renter. You will also be able to view your messages and requests for rentals in the Dashboard or your inbox.

How do I know if the rental is confirmed?

You will receive an email notification upon acceptance of the booking. The booking along with all pertinent details of the booking and parties involved will be visible in your profile dashboard.

Does the rental price include fuel?

For overnight stays on the boat, fuel is not needed. Electricity is provided at most docks or the boat will have battery operated lights for guests. If taking the boat out on a charter, each boat is different. While rentals do not typically include fuel, do check with your boats’ owner. There will be an estimated fuel cost for your boat which can be reviewed before the start of your rental.

Are there life jackets on board?

Yes, there are life jackets on board which is a requirement of the USCG and other maritime governing bodies.

Are there any prohibited items allowed on boats?

Boat owners determine what they will allow on the boat beyond the laws in place. WavStay is invested in the safety of every guest so please adhere to the laws and restrictions.

What should I do if there is damage to the boat, or an accident?

If there is a serious accident while out on the water, please alert the US Coast Guard +1 (800) 323-7233 immediately, or hail them on VHF 16.

If at a marina, please contact 911 or your local police or fire department.

What should I bring and wear on a boat, yacht or charter?

Since temperatures can be around ten degrees cooler when on the water than on land, be sure to plan accordingly. We want you to enjoy every part of your overnight stay or trip but safety is first. A hat, sunglasses and swimsuit are recommended. Comfortable clothing and non-marking soft soled shoes are appropriate. Flip flops or high heels are not suggested as the decks get wet and you could slip or leave marks on the boat. Each boat owner may be different and have specific requirements. Please check with them directly. Keep in mind that space is limited on a boat so soft side luggage or even a small duffel bag is a great idea. Don’t forget the sunscreen.

Are children allowed on rentals?

Yes! Children under 12 years old can be counted as half an adult when adding up the number of people on board. For example, a boat with a capacity of four adults could safely carry three adults and two children under the age of 12. Children up to twelve months of age do not need to be included when determining capacity.

Host Revenue and Pricing

The Host determines the price on WavStay. Please remember that WavStay will deduct a commission of 5% from this price to cover the credit card processing fee. Upon successful completion of each rental, WavStay will proceed to pay the Host for the services provided.

The price that the Guest will pay consists of the displayed price, plus any add-ons made available by the Host, plus a WavStay 17% service fee.
